Julie Anne Irving, Ph.D., C. Psych

Dr. Irving is a clinical psychologist who specializes in mindfulness-based interventions, the prevention and treatment of workplace burnout, and cognitive behavioural therapy. She completed her Ph.D. at McGill University studying burnout in physicians in the Faculty of Medicine’s Programs in Whole Person Care. Her clinical psychology residency at Penn Medical and Princeton Medical Centres included training in eating disorders and mood, anxiety, and concurrent disorders.

  • Dr. Irving then held a two-year clinical/research postdoctoral fellowship in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) (2011-2013); her research focused on understanding the mechanisms that underpin change in mindfulness-based therapies and the prevention of depressive relapse. 

    Following her postdoc she helped found the award winning Integrated Care Pathway for Depression and Alcohol in the CAMH Addiction Medicine Service as the Psychology Lead. Dr. Irving is currently a Consulting Psychologist in the Translational Addictions Research Lab (TARL) at CAMH. She is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychological Clinical Science at the University of Toronto.

    Dr. Irving enjoys working with students and trainees and has taught workshops on CBT, burnout prevention in health care, and addictions treatments at health centres across Canada and in the United States. She has an interest in working with individuals in professions that are considered high-risk for burnout and adults who have a recent diagnosis of ADHD.


NADINE RICHARD, Ph.D., C. Psych

Dr. Richard is a registered clinical, rehabilitation, and neuropsychologist. At Mind Balance, she provides psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational/ADHD, and neuropsychological/cognitive assessments, psychological treatment, and cognitive rehabilitation. She sees clients for assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, adjustment to illness, injury, or life changes, and cognitive (attention, executive, memory) challenges related to aging, ADHD, acquired brain injury, cancer or its treatment (cranial radiation, “chemo brainˮ), and other issues.

  • Dr. Richard emphasizes a collaborative and evidence-based approach to help clients attain their treatment goals using cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and skills training (e.g., self-regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, goal management). Dr. Richard completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Toronto and the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest Health Sciences, specializing in clinical neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. She has clinically trained and worked at leading academic hospitals including the Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

    Dr. Richard has conducted grant-funded research, primarily in the areas of neurocognitive functioning, health-related quality of life, and cognitive rehabilitation for individuals with acquired brain injuries or illness. She is a published peer-reviewed author, and has lectured in the Departments of Psychology and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toronto. She is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, Canadian Psychological Association, Canadian Academy of Psychologists in Disability Assessment, and Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance.


Longena Ng, Ph.D., C. Psych

She/her

Dr. Ng completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at York University and has trained at several academic hospitals across Canada. She is registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Dr. Ng specializes in the assessment and treatment of various psychological concerns, including panic, generalized anxiety, depression, burnout, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

  • Dr. Ng is the Psychology Practicum Director at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, a staff psychologist at CAMH, and an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto. She has led the development of several innovative treatment streams at CAMH for the treatment of trauma and work-related issues. She enjoys mentoring students and residents in CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy.


Dr. Megan Davidson, Ph.D., C. Psych

She/her

Dr. Davidson received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Queen’s University. She is a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Dr. Davidson completed her predoctoral training at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in the Mood and Anxiety Disorder Program and in the Eating Disorder and Addiction Clinic. She has worked in a number of inpatient, outpatient, and private practice settings and is regularly involved in program development. Her graduate research examined the psychological influences on health, illness, and responses to those states.

  • Dr. Davidson specializes in the assessment and treatment of adults presenting with stress, generalized anxiety, panic, social anxiety, disordered eating, and difficulties regulating emotions.

    She works within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework, and also draws from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based approaches.


Dr. Sarah Houshmand, Ph.D., C. Psych
Clinical and Counselling Psychologist
She/her

Dr. Houshmand is a clinical and counselling psychologist, specialising in depression, anxiety and perfectionism, student mental health and multicultural psychology. Prior to joining Mind Balance, she provided psychological services at a large medical practice in Hong Kong, the University of Toronto, Western University, and the Concurrent Disorders Service at Parkwood Hospital in London, ON. Dr. Houshmand’s theoretical approach is grounded in a collaborative, multicultural framework addressing concerns such as adjustment to a new country, culture or academic/work setting; perinatal depression and anxiety; and, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

  • Dr. Houshmand draws upon evidence-based theories including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and dialectical behavioural therapy. In addition, she welcomes the integration of creative forms of expression and mindfulness in her practice. Dr. Houshmand has provided workshops on addressing microaggressions in therapy, anti-oppressive mental health care, as well as on perinatal mood issues for expectant parents. She received her Ph.D. from McGill University where her research on microaggressions.


Dr. Marina Fodor, Ph.D., C. Psych

Dr. Marina Fodor received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University. She is currently completing a postdoctoral fellowship in addictions medicine at CAMH examining evidence-based treatments for alcohol and cannabis use disorders. Dr. Fodor is experienced in a variety of evidence-based interventions including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and uses an integrative approach to tailor treatment to individuals needs.

  • Dr. Fodor specializes in helping clients improve emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness, as well as treating mood, anxiety, substance use, and concurrent disorders. She is also passionate about improving overall health and well-being and has spearheaded the development of a lifestyle clinic at a primary care centre, as well as a new health and wellness group at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). As a result, she has extensive experience working with individuals to manage stress, reduce burnout, address sleep difficulties, improve diet and exercise, and increased mindfulness.


Maryam Sharif-Razi, M.Sc.

Maryam Sharif-Razi received her M.Sc. and is near completion of her Ph.D. at the University of Calgary in Clinical Psychology. Her residency was at the University of Waterloo with rotations in private practice and the Homewood Health Centre. Maryam's past clinical experience included training in evidence-based diagnostic assessments, comprehensive neurocognitive evaluations, and treatments for individuals with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, learning disability, eating disorders, and addictive disorders. Her work with complex concurrent disorders has shaped her theoretical orientation to be integrative, incorporating CBT with other empirical modalities (e.g., mindfulness, emotion focused therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention). 

  • Maryam is also trained in providing Cognitive Processing Therapy for clients with complex PTSD. She additionally works with individuals who are trying to navigate through the grief and stress associated with a divorce or separation, as well as other interpersonal problems.


Ivy Cho, M.A.

Ivy Cho is a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). She received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience at the University of Calgary and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at UTSC.   Her areas of research interest include neural reward responses in individuals identified as neurotypical and the impacts of mood disorder on working memory. Throughout her training, Ivy has gained clinical experience in neuropsychological assessment, psychological assessment, and psychotherapy.

  • Specifically, Ivy Cho has completed placements at Baycrest Health Sciences, Princess Margaret Cancer Center, Toronto Western Hospital, Center for Addiction and Mental Health, and the UTSC Health and Wellness Centre.  Ivy’s approach to therapy emphasizes a non-judgmental, collaborative approach tailoring the treatment to the client. She is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and frequently draws from other techniques including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and self-compassion therapy.  


Dr. JULIANNE VANDERVOORT
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST, Ph.D., C. PSYCH

Dr. Vandervoort is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and a member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec. She completed her doctorate at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. She has worked substantially with clients presenting with mood, anxiety, substance use, concurrent, sleep, and posttraumatic stress disorders using a cognitive behavioural approach. Dr. Vandervoort completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in 2015 where she was central to the implementation of the Integrated Care Pathway for Major Depression and Alcohol Use Disorder, providing Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to clients as well as training to therapists across Toronto.

  • During her postdoctoral fellowship she conducted research within the inpatient Addiction Services and focused on launching standardized CBT groups within the outpatient service. Dr. Vandervoort is currently a Staff Psychologist at the Concurrent Outpatient Medical and Psychosocial Addictions Support Service at CAMH. She recently founded the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Cannabis Use Group in this service. She provides clinical supervision to psychology practicum students and psychology residents. She also regularly teaches principles of CBT for substance use disorders to medical fellows and psychiatry residents at CAMH.


DR. MARGARET REID, Ph.D., C. Psych
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr. Reid completed her Clin.Psy.D. doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham, UK. As part of her training, she obtained basic competencies in clinical areas across the lifespan (e.g. child & family, intellectual disabilities, adults, and older adults) and completed specialist training in addictions. Over the past 10 years, she has completed additional training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr. Reid worked at CAMH for 17 years where she gained further specialized experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities, Autism/ Asperger's, or brain injury and their caregivers.

  • Dr. Reid also worked with Drs. Irving and Vandervoort on the Integrated Care Pathway for Depression and Alcohol, offering both individual and group treatment. She is a registered Psychologist in Clinical and Health Psychology for Adults and Older Adults with the College of Psychologists in Ontario.

    At Mind Balance, her focus is on the assessment and treatment of generalized and social anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and concurrent disorders. She is also interested in helping individuals better manage workplace or caregiver stresses. Dr. Reid is a trained yoga teacher who started practicing yoga and meditation in 1996. She is a certified MBCT facilitator and is additionally trained in MBSR.


Ariannah Sooknanan

Ariannah Sooknanan is currently a first-year undergrad student attending Toronto Metropolitan University completing a Bachelors in Social Work. Upon obtaining her degree, she hopes to work alongside youth and young adults dealing with stress, generalized anxiety, and depression. 

At Mind Balance, Ariannah conducts intake assessments and provides support to clinical staff.
