Dr. Amanda Ferguson is a clinical psychologist and the Director of Research at Mind Balance. Her practice is focused on the treatment of emotion-related disorders using mindfulness-based interventions, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychological Clinical Science at the University of Toronto, where she studied how emotions affect decision making and motivation. Her clinical psychology residency at the Royal Mental Health Care Center in Ottawa included training in the treatment and assessment of concurrent disorders and trauma-related disorders in inpatient, outpatient, and forensic settings. She has clinically trained and worked at leading academic hospitals including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

Following her doctoral training, Dr. Ferguson moved to the University of Cambridge, where she held a position as a Senior Associate at Darwin College and the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit. In this role, Dr. Ferguson studied whether and how technology use impacts trajectories of mental health and well being, particularly in young people. She has published several widely-cited articles examining the psychological impact of digital media on young people. Dr. Ferguson is currently an Assistant Research Professor in the Digital Mental Health Group at the University of Cambridge, where she conducts grant-funded research on this topic. She is a published peer-reviewed author and has additionally lectured in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

Dr. Ferguson prioritizes a flexible and evidence-based approach to psychological intervention. She sees clients for assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, burnout, stress, trauma, emotions dysregulation, substance use, interpersonal difficulties, family stress, and issues related to social media use in adolescents.
